Believe it or not, in 2019, studies show that people now search for a business on Facebook more often than on Google search. Social Media is a great channel for growing your business and bringing in more leads. When creating your Facebook business page, it is important to take your time and make sure you optimize your page for social media. Below I have outlined a beginner’s guide to social media optimization & creating a business page on Facebook. If you need more help or info, feel free to send me an email or give me a call. I enjoy helping you succeed!
What Is SMO (Social Media Optimization)?
SMO is a way to use social media to grow your company’s online presence. Where some businesses tend to just set up a profile on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to be where their customers are, SMO is about strategically designing, building, and maximizing your social media plan to relate with your target viewers.
SMO enables you to:
- Strengthen your brand
- Generate leads
- Get increased visibility online
- Connect with your audience
Why is SMO Important?
Search engine marketing (SEO) and social media marketing are closely correlated in today’s online marketing world. In the past, the two were looked at as separate aspects of marketing, but the reality is that social media marketing and SEO are both stronger together. One study found 50% of companies that aren’t integrating social media marketing aren’t succeeding with SEO.
How Do I Create a Facebook Business Page?
You should have a personal Facebook page and a Fan (business) page. If you have a personal Facebook, you can log-in and create your business page. If you do not have a fan “business” page, it is crucial to create one. Facebook does not allow personal pages to be used for business, and your advertisements will not be shown to mobile users at all without a business page. See the steps below to help you get started setting up a business page on Facebook:
1. Log into Facebook
2. Click “pages” shortcut on the left-hand side menu
3. Top right corner click “create page”
– Select your page option “business or brand”
– Make sure to add all details to personalize your page including images, about me section, phone #, email address, website link, business address, and so on. Business address, phones number, ect. should match exactly as your website and Google listing. This will help tell Google that your business is reputable and can help your business rank higher in search results.
Profile: Creating your profile appears to be a rather simple task, yet it’s one of the first areas where companies fall short. Think of your business profile page as your foundation. If it’s ineffective and weak, it’s hard to establish anything on top of it. Below I have listed what it takes to build a powerful profile.
Photo: Your profile photo should be your business logo image or a professional-looking headshot.
Username: Your username should be your name or the name you use for your business.
Bio: Clearly state what you can do for your clients. Try placing a link back to your website within your Facebook bio to drive more traffic. Using relevant keywords in your bio will also give your page higher visibility in search.
Most importantly: Fill out your profile thoroughly. The more complete your profile is, the more your page will stand out. Devote some time to completing your social media profiles 100% so you can give it the attention it deserves.
Content: Keep your company active on social media by posting images and videos regularly, liking & commenting on posts, replying quickly to messages & comments, and sharing content from other pages. Studies say it is best to post at least 4 x per week, but not more than 10 x per week. From my experience and research, it is most helpful to make at least one picture or video post on Facebook daily between 11 am – 3 pm. Create a content calendar at the beginning of each month and schedule your posts ahead of time. That way you don’t have to worry about remembering to plan a post every day.
